VORNN has an excellent knowledge of METAL history, so pay attention to the man!!

So basically the question is what influenced VENOM. My opinion would be that it would be the sound of SABBATH / PRIEST, the MOTÖRHEAD connection is because they both used the speed and energy of Punk music. ABADDON's Drums have certainly a touch of Punk at times, CRONOS copied the style of original VENOM singer JESUS CHRIST, combining it with Johnny Rotten-type Ha ha's. The Bass playing is influenced mainly by THIN LIZZY and RUSH. Lyrics influenced by SABBATH, though they sang about a fear of evil, Satan, etc, while VENOM told you Satan was coming to get ya! Early image influenced by PRIEST, stageshow influenced by KISS.... throw it all together with MANTAS' savage riffs, ABADDON's drum mayhem and the distorted Bass and aggresive vox and you get REAL BLACK METAL!

Yeah I got better manners, but I fear I left them at home this morning...

Bad day eh ? Looks like I am not the only cranky one 'round. Others posted as well but you addressed this to me. Sounds personal. This will not invoke a reaction from me. Never in my years have I encountered this, always and only on the internet or in the movies. Not in person anyway.

Black metal did not exist before Venom's Black Metal. That is like asking what existed before homo-sapiens. The music was a different thing altogether pre-Black Metal until it mutated into itself.. Venom invented it from pre-existing music which was around, namely punk hydridized with Motorhead.

Do not try to bully me around because that is what it is. No word play. I don't play these internet games anymore like I did when I was screwed up. Grow up.

Don't you know a thing or two about respect ? or didn't anyone in the real world teach you yet ?, you are better than that aren't you ? If you don't like me that is ok, I don't thrive on acceptance. I work around alot of people I don't like and I don't play those adolescent games with them. But this is the internet right ? Harmless fun where we can be anyone we want.

I was lucky Durtal didn't feed me my ass when I mouthed off to him 'cause fucked up I didn't know any better. Respect is really just common sense, unfortunately it ain't that common anymore.

Flat text can do that to a person, it was more tongue in cheek than you could gather from it, for which I apologize. Actually it was a bit of word play, no internet game.

Sons thanks for your input. But you don't know of any direct punk influence on Venom?

SEX PISTOLS would have been the biggest influence, especially on CRONOS' vox. Others like THE DAMNED and THE CLASH have also been mentioned....

Huh. It's good to know that, after 8 years, there are still surprises waiting for me.

Not quite the same, but check out the chorus to Heaven's On Fire: http://youtu.be/4mQYGt3fc1c

I agree, they're reminiscient.

All the best,
