I saw Sadistic Intent back in September at a festival in Cleveland. They were freakin' awesome and easily stole the show that night.

I am extremely looking forward to this concert. I have never seen Sadistic Intent live before. Probably the only band which existed for 30 years and has not yet released a single album...

And Deathcult from Switzerland of course... Fantastic old school Death Metal.
First full lenght album Beasts of Faith released in September this year.

When I saw them, there was a fantastic energy in the air. It was a memorable night.

Blood Incantation / Cruciamentum / Vacivus / Offensive - The Exchange, Bristol, England (21/03/17)

I haven't been to a gig this great since I last saw Voivod at the Fleece in Bristol! I missed Offensive, so I can't comment about them. Luckily, I arrived just as Vacivus were starting. What a band they were, too! Old school death metal, early Obituary style, but more blackened. The mix was a bit muddy, but it all came through OK. Cruciamentum were absolutely amazing, as was the sound mix! Mostly mid-paced old school death with slow, buzzing guitar work, some fast parts and Slayer style chaotic soloing; some of those riffs were absolutely evil! Blood Incantation are not from this planet, I can assure you. How four guys can create that kind of sound is just beyond me. They were more of a progressive death metal band, but with plenty of old school among the technical chaos to keep everyone happy. You really didn't know where the next riff was going to take you! They also had the best sound mix of the night, which is essential for a band like them. It's rare when you have gigs as great as this, but when you do, it's amazing!

Taake / Fen / De Profundis - The Exchange, Bristol, England (06/04/17)

I missed De Profundis, but I'm not that much of a fan anyway, so I wasn't that sad. I wondered what I'd make of Fen, because they're part of this current wave of post black metal, which I'm not a massive fan of. The audio mix could have been better, because I couldn't hear the drums and the vocals were way too high in the mix. Anyway, I can't say that I'm converted; I found them way too progressive, i.e. meandering songs, pointless electric acoustic widdling and not much, er, blackness! Give me old school any day. Oh, and talking of old school, Taake were on next and proceeded to destroy the place with razor edged speed and demonic screams! The sound mix was nearly right on the button, although the drums and Hoest's voice disappeared sometimes. Some of their tunes can veer into 'folkiness' at times, but they were enjoyable. The appearance of an electric banjo is something I've never seen before! Class!

Acid Reign / Shrapnel / Chronos / Ylem Darkul / Voluntas - The Exchange, Bristol (09/04/17)

I missed the first two bands and Chronos were already playing when I went in. I like thrash metal, but I hate tech thrash and that's what they were playing. Seriously not for me. Shrapnel are one of the best UK thrash bands around at the moment and they completely killed it here! The guitarist's hands were a blur up and down his fret board as they tore through their material. It was a shame they didn't have a longer set and that the turn out was a bit sparse. Next up was Acid Reign, who I haven't seen since 1989. I was never completely enamoured by them back then, thinking that they were a poor man's Anthrax, and they are still just average in my eyes. Still, they played really well and their fronman, H, was an absolute comedian (although, he is actually a stand up comedian, so I'm not surprised). The sound mix was brilliant for all the bands and I had a great night.
