Uh oh...is it wrong to admit that I actually like what I'm hearing from Nordic Mist!? Not because I think they have ANYTHING to do with Celtic Frost in the least- I just like how they sound. And I just hope they aren't under any delusion that anyone hears them and thinks of, or are reminded of CF, cos it' ain't happening...OH and I love the "Ah HAH" in the second song! The grunts are a pretty ala-Tom and obvious, but since I dig their raw sound it's forgiveable...

I also recently discovered these guys, who obviously got their cue from Tom/Hellhammer:

http://www.myspace.com/officialtyrant

And I rather like them too, for the same reasons as Nordic Mist- just cool lo-fi metal; members of which that happen to wear their influences on their sleeves. I can appreciate bands like this cos they don't seem to be letting their egos get the best of them, seems they're having fun. Very Happy

And again, how it should NOT be:

http://www.myspace.com/damnationshammer

It represents everything wich Opolus said in his post, earlier in this thread. The guitar sound is so annoying...

I wish there would be more bands like the mighty SALUTE, wich SOUND like Frost but doesn´t try to copy the whole visionary thing in a rather bad way.

Oh and yes, TYRANT were a very great band! I love their Full-Lenght Record and the Split with mighty ALEHAMMER (here we go again...). Sadly that they got disbanded this year...

EDIT: Just to give another example for true Frost/HH Sound -> http://www.myspace.com/behindthefire

In my ears, the best German Underground Band since years! Crushing all this Thrash Metal Garbage to the ground...

I found a new band that has this special Celtic Frost vibe, especially the slow doomy parts of Morbid Tales.

Its Salute from Bristol/UK.

Check out the song "Shredding Belt". What happens >3:00min drives me nuts every time I listen to this. Absolutely stunning. Their CD is currently blocking my HiFi (together with two other CDs from the same label Witches Brew, namely the new phenomenal Scythe CD - that's like Anarcrusis on a higher level - and Torture Pulse which is Swedish Death Metal in the vein of Demonical/Fleshcrawl and done really really well).

Found Salute's debut CD "Above The Law" and this is less Celtic frost and even more Hellhammer in terms of guitar sound and simplicity. Total killer again and a $4.99 cheapo on ebay.

Holy shit, now this is a real Hellhammer beat in the Swedish Crust of Wolfpack:

I love every album they did, but currently dicovering the first two records ( A New Dawn Fades and Lycanthro Punk) as the best.

And they're even from the same country as Tom! Very Happy

I guess it should be noted that they changed their name to Wolfbrigade, halfway through their career. Evidently, there was an NS prison gang with the same name.

Never heard thee guys and, at first, I was all, "what the hell is Peter talking about: they should like DRI!" But then it became obvious.

Never saw a problem with bands imitating other bands, I enjoy Warhammer and Nordic Mist (yes I bought the split EP a couple years back)

I come from a d-beat background where every band imitated Discharge to the last detail, and my love for Black Metal and Bathory imitators also plays a crucial role I guess.

Delirium never hit me as Celtic Frosty, great album nonetheless

Currently re-discovering some sampler CDs in my collection. This is called "In Crust We Trust" from Lost&Found Records sometime in early-to-mid 90es. Besides some killer Crude SS tracks (L&F released the Crude SS compilation CD with Hellhammer like Crust from '85 from these Swedes) there is also Malefice. An EP got relesased in 1984 which was more punk, but later recordings have been heavier with a massive Hellhammer influence. This band also got their compilation released by L&F.

I found one track from the sampler on youtube. Buy the CD for cheap, the guitar tone is much heavier than on this youtube recording:

(the more punky '84 EP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_RHcczHVAQ)

Actually I bough the Malefice - Lotus Blossom sampler LP that came out on Lost And Found roughly in 1990 (written on the LP). Disappointing to say at least. The two tracks on the Label Compilation CD are the only ones that have this Hellhammer guitar sound and the Denial Fiend like drumbeat. The other tracks seem to be older (though already better than the punky 7" from 1984 that can be found on youtube too) and have no highs no lows, so easy forgettable stuff. No Hellhammer in these remaining songs... only the first two are ace. Sad, hoped to find one more hidden gem...

Anyone listened to the sample above? (the single song, not the punky EP '84) ?

Yep.

How is this not in the Metal Archives?

Probably they deemed the band "too punk/hardcore". (I recently tried to register my experimental BM band and our new cd, but couldn't due to the IMHO flabbergasting narrowmindedness of the admins)

Just found the 2nd track "Acid Death" from the In Crust We Trust Label Compilation. Not as good as "Overboard", but decent. At 2:10min it's getting interesting for the Hellhammerish guitar/drums

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kajpiD0FGg

These are the two best songs on the "Lotus Blossom" LP that later got released by Lost and Found Records. The other songs are bit older (from '84 and early '85) and way less Hellhammer influenced. So well, get the Malefice - Lotus Blossom LP or the In Crust We Trust Label Sampler for Overboard alone.

Just recognised the massive CF vibe in Odious Bliss from Bloodbath on the Splinters CD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YteTJGglj6A

Seems to be a similar CF-influenced song on the last record, but I haven't heard this yet.
