I guess it's somehow clear that Reed probably doesn't suit Triptykon, as he "auditioned" for the band in its early stage, but nevertheless they went for Norman.

Didn't Reed also audition for the initial Monotheist-era Celtic Frost reformation or perhaps I am mis-remembering that. I seem to recall some disappointment around the whole situation.

Norman will be hard to replace as his performances on the two albums have been wholly excellent in my view. However I'm sure whomever eventually fills the spot will be top-notch and welcomed with open arms.

Being a huge fan of the early Frost style I would have liked the idea of a reunion with Reed. So another candidate I would like to propose: Bob Bagchus (of Asphyx fame among others). Truely the greatest Hellhamer and Frost fan I ever met. Would be awesome to see him joining Triptykon!

I want to say that Tom reached out to Reed when he was forming Triptykon, but that it didn't work out.

I think those discussions were in the old forum, on the recordfinder site.

Where is the point in making such deliberations? Eventhough TCD played a (if not "the") essential part in the matter why CF fell apart, nobody knows how it would have worked out with a different musician...

Nah, it was definitely on this board because I remember it & I was never on that old board. Where it is on here is another matter. Must be somewhere near the bottom. I recall alot of excitement leading up to Tom posting in a rather blunt manner that Reed never went past a day or 2 & how he felt misled by Reed (or words to that effect) - but that they'd already found their guy. There was a collective WTF?! moment which quickly disappeared as the new group began to gather momentum & when we all heard some new material (Abyss Within My Soul ?). Remember as well how Tom's ability to choose drummers was called into question by a certain member who knew Tom personally & which received a terse reply by the man himself. Ringing any bells, Knut? Well, that's all history now & Norman certainly silenced all critics...so going forward after his exit is from another position entirely. It is funny though how Reed is almost immediately brought up once again! Fans will be fans, I guess.

You have a much better rememberer than I do, Akhenaton.

Tom Gabriel Fischer wrote:
When Celtic Frost broke apart so dramatically in April of 2008, and I was faced with the task of building a new group from the shattered remains, it was clear to me that I would talk to Reed about it. He had vowed to me in the US that he could and wanted to play the style of music Celtic Frost performed on stage during the "Monotheist" tour.

Reed flew to Switzerland and practiced with Triptykon. There even exist a couple of very basic early rehearsal recordings from those sessions. Again, however, that Triptykon still ended up with another drummer has a solid and unavoidable reason, far beyond my sphere of influence. The realization and decision was mutual.

This was in the 1349 thread about Revelations of the Black Flame. Prior to this passage, Tom explains that Celtic Frost seemed incomplete in a way without Reed. He then goes on to explain how Norman was going to be a fantastic fit. Which turned out to be true.

You can read it all here.

And I have to say, it cracks me up that people still call me "Knut". Three or four iterations ago of this board, my alias was "Knut the Knucklehead". I'm a sucker for alliteration.
