I’m surprised that we don’t already have a thread about ToD.

Released 35 years ago this month. I was either 12 or 13, depending on the date of release. I wouldn’t learn of Hellhammer’s existence until after TMT was released and still didn’t hear the demos until the Internet age.

I bought a tape copy of Apocalyptic Raids in ‘89, probably, and vastly preferred the first two CF records, so I never even tried to hint down the demos. In fact, I don’t believe I owned a copy of ToD until the Demon Entrails release.

1984 was year 0 for me, although I had my first musical shock four years ago with AC/DC , Motörhead and so many other NWOBHM bands the following months. Having experienced the violent discovery of Venom the year before (thanks to Enfer magazine), I thought nothing could go further in the extreme. I was wrong. The EP created a lot of debate in the Hard Rock community of the day. Is it cult or is it a big joke? I adhered to the first part this question although being part of a very large minority.
the section "Absolutely no Thanks Pure Hate to" leave more than one speechless.
Venom fans were also subject to this kind of scorn and contempt but not at this level. I first recorded it on K7 because a friend of my brother had lent it to us, just like the Death Metal compilation. I bought a copy of Apocalyptic Raids in Lausanne 3 years later. We didn't know at this time how we were lucky to live this legendary era.
These pure moments of discovery are sorely missed today.

I think being into 'extreme' metal in that mid-80s period brought all sorts of contempt and disgust with it. Bands like Venom, Bathory, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost were carving a new way and some people just couldn't stand it.

I learned about Hellhammer in about '84, thanks to Shades in London. Unfortunately, due to not having much money back then, I couldn't afford to buy the EP (although I have it now). I had no idea there were demos until much, much later. I have the Demon Entrails CD set now Smile

Maybe I missed something earlier, but saw today a post from Sept 19 on Tom's FB page*, that the bassist from Kirlian Camera and Niryth (meaning Mia Wallace, right?) also plays in Tom's Hellhammer tribute projekt ... called "Triumph Of Death"! Cool Very cool news!! Both Niryth and Triumph Of Death about to hit the stage next year.

*The original FB post was about a sexist asshole, though:
