Topic will probably get deleted, but there is a good rip of the Satanic Rites demo and some blabla available here:

Seems to be the most close version to the original demo - as it sounded back in 1983. As you can read, Erich got the tapes from the band, so it should reflect the real sound without any changes etc., cause it was ripped from the original tape to computer.
Not as perfect (or brilliant) as the 1990 picture LP, but very good (and, of course, much better than all CD versions out there !!!).
The 1990 picture LP will always be the best source, cause it was made by a former roadie and close friend of the band, named Marco Suremann, who got the 1st generation recordings from Martin or Tom (as you can read on an interview, published by Voices From The Dark Side) and released the record with permission of the band (if we could believe that story).
The picture LP sounds bit better than the original demo rip, but who cares ??? Nice to listen to a straight copy without any remastering etc.

A.O.D.,

Weren't the first HH bootleg demo CD's from 1995 ripped from these picture discs? I remember that the "Triumph Of Death" bootleg CD from 1995 had a skip in the middle of "Crucifixion", and I think another skip on "Power Of Satan". I need to listen to these again...I'm just going by memory here.

Both CD versions were ripped from the picture discs or a tape copy of the picture discs, cause SATANIC RITES suffers from some phasing errors on the beginning part of MESSIAH (not included on the LP itself).
All available CD versions are copies from the picture LP, made in 1990. The 1999 picture LP was ripped from the 1995 and sounds worst !!!
Same with TRIUMPH OF DEATH. Both demos appear in best possible quality on the limited edition picture LPs from 1990, made by Marco Suremann with permission of the band back then...

I always wanted to obtain copies of the pic discs back in 1994/1995 (when I was in college), but by then they were sold out and very hard to come by (and the internet wasn't what it is today, as far as finding something easily).

I own just one copy of it...I bought it unplayed some years ago and, of course, I did a transfer to CD-R (with an ORTOFON cartridge for 250 Euro). Sounds much better than the shitty bootleg CDs.

A.O.D.,

Do you have the "TOD" or "SR" picture disc? Either way, can you tell me if it is the white or the silver version (I think white was first press, silver second press?)?

SATANIC RITES: The white LP with the symbol in black on side A and a blank side B is the first pressing from 1990. The later versions with inverted cover and silver/gold symbols and lettering were made in 1999 and taken from the 1995 bootleg CDs, so the sound is far away from the original 1990 pressing.

Original 1990 pressing (and the best sound quality ever):

1999 pressing (bad sound quality, drop out riff of "The Third And The Storms" is missing - same as on all available CD versions):

Same for TRIUMPH OF DEATH.

Original 1990 pressing:

1999 pressing (bad sound quality, including a skip resulting from a scratched record, taken as source for the 1999 version):

I hope this helps.

A.O.D.,

The first sentence of your post originally read:

"SATANIC RITES: The white LP with the symbol in black on side A and a blank side B is the first pressing from 1999." Wink
