What is magick and what do you get out of it? I was reading through some old threads and stumbled on a post where the sugestion was made to read 'The Bornless Ritual'. I did and it doesn't make any sense to me. Can someone please enlighten me on the subject?

Ok, i did a quick study myself. I understand now. It has taught me nothing i wasn't already aware of. Personally i think it is not a very efficient way to become conscious of the universe and your place in it (the things you unconsciously already knew which, of course, is the big joke).

And due to the overwelming response i think we can lock this one down.

IN BEFORE THE LOCK!

But it's cool to spell it that way.

Being all esoteric and shit.

It's almost like they didn't know which letter to use.

Magick is the Science of understanding oneself and one's conditions. It is the Art of applying that understanding in action.

This i understand. But what role do the many rituals have in gaining this understanding? How do they help? I recently got this insight through a combination of science (advanced network theory and its appliance in diverse scientific fields of research) and philosophy. The ritual side of magick, to me, seems unnescesary to achieve the ultimate goal. But again, please enlighten me!

Rituals in my view,
seem to serve well as a vehicle
to enter that altered state of mind.
(A formulaic activity that is supposed to cleanse the mind if you will, in order to be clear of everything/anything that keep you from achieving that ultimate goal.)

Or at least that was the lesson I got from
my Anthropology of Magick/Witchcraft and Religion class.

It could vary from anything such as a couple drinks before a concert,
to the symbolic examples you may see and read about.
