A huge loss. His art has fascinated and inspired me ever since I first saw it somewhere around 1980 in a book about the making of 'Alien'. I remember going 'woah!' when I got my copy of To Mega Therion, the cover was so stunning, and I remember the thrill of finally getting my own copies of 'Necronomicon' and 'Biomechanics' and spending hours enthralled by what lay within.

Thank you, Herr Giger, for all the joy and inspiration your work has given me over the years. You will never be forgotten.

Most sincere condolences to Tom on the loss of his friend and mentor. It is a devastating loss to have such a close personal relationship taken away so suddenly, never mind the professional relationship as well. The people closest to us in our lives are, in a manner of speaking, extensions of ourselves. Having gone through this loss before myself, I know the effect is profound, and wish Tom and the Giger family strength.

All the best,
PAULIE

How strange that just last night my copies of MC arrived and I was admiring the artwork in full album-cover size.

My deepest condolences, Tom: we all know that Giger had a profound impact on the trajectory of your professional life; based on what you have shared here and elsewhere it is clear that he was a very close personal friend, as well. In times such as this I find it is hard to communicate properly without resorting to platitudes. But, in any event, we all here extend sympathies on your loss.

This is a very sad day; he was a true visionary and I've been an admirer of his work since I first discovered him at an early age through (as I'm sure most people did) his incredible and unparalleled work on Ridely Scott's Alien.

It was also H.R. Giger who was indirectly responsible for my discovery of Celtic Frost thanks to the magnificent Satan I on the To Mega Therion cover. For a young man desperately searching for a musical analogue to his incredible visions, it was certainly a step in the right direction.

Condolences to his family and friends from a nobody.

His art will live on.

I wonder how many times the conversation went something like this: "Dude. The guy from Alien did the cover art!"
I know that my friends and I had that exact conversation.

Very sad news. Satan I is the most iconic album cover ever, at least to me.
