Finally got this one. It's actually a pretty solid packaging, not the least because it features lyrics to ALL the featured songs, unlike some of the former"Apocalyptic Raids A. D." re-issues. Soundwise it's all a little muffled, I'd say, talking about minor quality decline compared to the original pressings. Eventually this is aimed anyway towards either people who don't own the original vinyl pressing, while not being too eager browsing "Ebay", or Die Hard collectors like Tobi or me, who simply need to hunt down ANY existing version of that record.

[quote="I believe Tom (and Martin) do not receive any compensation for any of these releases (or re-releases) for "Apocalyptic Raids", "Morbid Tales", "To Mega Therion", and "Into the Pandemonium". The rights for these releases are currently held exclusively by Universal music. I believe Tom has said in interviews that he would not see the rights revert back to him until 70 years after his death...[/quote]

Zane is correct. In fact, I had no idea about this release until reading this thread five minutes ago. Nobody at Universal or Back on Black bothered to even notify us. I will now write to my management and try to at least obtain a free copy of this edition of my first EP.

Fuck Universal.

Going by the 'muffled' report, one might think that they just reused the original pressing stampers - red vinyl can't have helped either. That Herr Fischer is only just now up to speed on this matter supports the notion that he is productively busy - I consider that a positive . . . . Love McD.

Not necessarily, McD. First, I can't imagine that they (Universal, Sanctuary, or especially Noise) actually *kept* any of the stampers from almost 25 years ago. Second, I'm betting Universal actually used digital copies to do this release. Based upon the previous posts from Opolus and especially Peter Ott (people whose opinions I would highly trust in regards to these releases...), the "muffled" sound could be a crappy digital to analogue transfer, similar to when Sanctuary (previous owners of the HH/CF releases before being bought out by Universal) licensed the first three CF releases to Earmark for vinyl, and Earmark just did straight digital to analogue transfers without even trying to go back to any master tapes. Sometimes that can work, but if you have the actual master tapes to use and they are still in good shape, why not use them? It's not as if the tapes are missing. When Tom thankfully worked with Noise for the CF remasters in 1999, the Noise staff managed to find either the original or safety masters for all Noise-related HH/CF releases, if I recall...

...personally, I am with Peter - I don't really trust the quality of *any* of these "BOB" releases. Plus the fact that Tom had no clue this was released speaks volumes about Universal...

Reckon you have the measure of it, Zane. As for Tom's awareness level in this matter, apart from Universal's lack of courtesy, I suggest that an extreme focus on the future has led him to dip into his allegiant forum more fleetingly than he might otherwise care to and that is what I took to be a positive sign from a fan perspective - I wish him all the best in his efforts and hope he gets sent a copy . . . . Love McD.

I agree for A.O.D.'s opinion, that a remastering done by an expert that actually cares and understands the music behind the job he is doing would have made this a total blast. But looking on how BoB worked in the past, I agree with Zane: They haven't understood and did not care much. It's a record you buy, listen to it once, and then put it in the shelf. Then you take carefully the first press out, listen to it and "enjoy yourself". (quote: Messiah Wink )

In 1993, Rock Brigade also released here in Brazil an edition on vinyl of "AR" with the two bonus tracks ("Revelations..." and "Messiah"), but no insert.

I don't now if Tom was notified about this release too.

Probably the collectors here already have this copy...

Yes, I do own this one as well. They surely must've thought "180 g vinyl my arse!" THAT's what I call bloody thin 12", I can tell you!

Yeah Opolus, I do own this one too and agree with you. This Rock Brigade edition is really poor.
